Refurbishment and/or extension under £5m
KITSON Architecture have won the coveted British Council of Shopping Centres Gold Award for their work on the refurbishment of the Aycliffe Shopping Centre in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham.
At the glittering awards ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane, outstanding retail developments are recognised by the industry. The awards are a major national event which mark the UK’s outstanding retail developments and celebrates the very best in retail property in both refurbishment and new build.
The judges comments highlighted the success of the project across all facets of the design and implementation stating;
“This transformation has been a commercial success with short term temporary income and voids being replaced with long term tenancies, significantly enhancing net income.
However, the Jury was particularly struck by the partnership approach and the dramatic impact the refurbishment has had on the local community with the creation of a town centre of which they could be proud.”
