We designed a new shopfront for this historic building in a Cambridge conservation area, receiving planning approval late 2020.
The 1960s shopfront does much to disguise that this was one of the very first playhouses in Cambridge. Following the relocation of the former tenant, we were asked by our client to re-design the elevation for the prospective occupier, a national retailer, in a way that was more respectful of the surrounding buildings and the conservation area.
Our design features glazing framed by pilasters with a projecting entablature resting on corbels, new glazing proportions and high-level clerestory windows. The pebbledash parapet is to be clad in a grey weatherboard.
